THE MODERN GOSPEL MYTH
THE MODERN GOSPEL MYTH
After researching ‘American Christianity’ from 1992 to 2011, I wrote three books, one of which was entitled ‘The Modern Gospel Myth.’ I wrote these while I was searching for God and His true gospel message. The first book was entitled ‘Imagine This,’ and the third was ‘A Nation Broken.’ The three books offered a story of my searching scriptures to a point where the truth ‘hit me,’ and transformed my life. ‘Imagine This’ was based on the scriptures that assure us, that as God’s kids, we can soar on eagles’ wings on air currents far above the earth’s surface. That, to me, assured a freedom that was beyond belief. The other scripture was Ephesians three, verse twenty, where we are told that God can do immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine, according to His power that is within us. I desperately desired to experience those promises from God.
After several years, and the number of books having sold could be counted of the fingers of one hand, I cancelled the first two books with my publisher, because they invoiced me more each year than I ever gained through royalties, for the privilege of having my manuscripts on their date base, and I simply could not afford to cover these costs. So, at this time, the only book I have available from my publisher is ‘A Nation Broken.’ That book details the incredible truths of scripture that can transform any sinner’s life to something that is truly unimaginable. Very sadly, that book has not sold more than the fingers on one hand either. That is very disturbing to me, because the only reason I wrote any of these books was my passionate desire for the light of Christ to shine brightly all over America transforming sinners to saints and making America a shining city on a hill once again.
In the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, the ‘Holiness Movement’ swept across the New World, as preachers like John and George Wesley and others ‘lit up’ the pulpits with the flames of righteousness. Or at least that was what Alexis de Tocqueville said he experienced as he checked out the churches, in his search for why America had raced ahead of all other nations in such a short space of time. The government of France sent Alexis, a political philosopher and historian to America to find out what made America so great. At that time, she was assuredly a shining city on a hill. The rest of the world stood in awe of this relatively new nation. But sadly, that all disappeared when the civil war rampaged across the nation from 1861 to 1865.
Those preachers believed the bible, and had experienced the joy unspeakable, the peace that passes all understanding, and the freedom of soaring on those eagles’ wings. They had repented and received the Holy Spirit for the forgiveness of their sins.
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38
They recognized that repentance was a one-time event where sin was dealt a death blow in their lives. Please check out Ezekiel 33:11-20 and REPENTANCE on Substack or Facebook’s Life Abundant for the true meaning of that absolute necessary event in one’s life. Hebrews 6:4-6 confirms the fact that repentance can only ever be done once.
The ‘gospel’ that has been preached since the civil war is not found in a bible! Please give this some serious consideration: when the bible uses the word ‘love’ in the Old Testament it came from a Hebrew word meaning ‘loyal contract.’ In the New Testament it came from a Greek word, ‘agape,’ meaning to make a deliberate act of one’s will to choose for the highest good of the other, regardless of personal cost. The ‘Christians’ of today insist on assuring y’all that God loves you. That has zero reference to emotions or feelings, when seen as the original Hebrew or Greek text gave us. So, they really tell us a lie because nobody seems to know that ‘love’ means anything but emotion. God displayed that love for sinners when He sent His Son to this sinful world to make a final sacrifice for all sins by shedding His blood on the cross at Calvary. Under the Old Covenant sinners were commanded to sacrifice a spotless animal on an altar, shedding its blood for forgiveness of their sin. Under the New Covenant sinners must know God well enough to fear Him so they can repent. In doing that, they are credited with the sacrificial death of Christ for the forgiveness of their sin. There is NEVER any forgiveness in the absence of repentance.
if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face AND TURN FROM THEIR WICKED WAYS, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chron. 7:14
That truth is repeated in Mark 1:4, Lk. 3:3, 24:46-47 and in Acts 2:38, 3:19.
Once a sinner repents, he/she never has to seek forgiveness again because he/she will never sin again. The Christians of the First Church did not sin. They lived in Christ where there is no sin.
But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin.
No one who lives in him sins. No one who sins has either seen him or known him. 1 Jn. 3:4-6
The letters of the New Testament were written to such folks, but today’s preachers and pew-warmers all love to claim the words in those letters as relevant for them, as sinners. Paul often addressed his letters to ‘the saints in Christ,’ or ‘the faithful brothers in Christ.’ When he heard that somebody claiming to be a member of the Church had sinned, ‘a fire burned in his gut.’ He told the folks in the fellowship at Corinth to ‘come back to your senses as you ought and stop sinning.’ 1 Cor. 15:34. There were clearly unbelievers infiltrating the flock at that time. In the same chapter Paul told them that if they believed any other gospel apart from what he taught, then they had believed in vain. So, his gospel included his words in verse 34. That gospel also included the fact that the wage of in sin death. Rom. 6:23 The ‘sinning Christians’ of today love to quote that verse because following those words is: ‘but the gift of God is eternal life IN Christ Jesus.’ They completely ignore the truth about sin, and focus on the GIFT of God, as if it is freely given to all who ‘believe in Jesus.’ But Paul made it clear that this eternal life is found IN CHRIST JESUS.
Can you really imagine God offering sinners freely, the greatest blessing ever to be given to any person, after what it cost Him to make that blessing available? We all know from experience that the greater the benefit/value of any product/item, the greater the cost to the one who purchases it. So, the greatest thing anyone could ever imagine, eternal life in heaven after abundant life on earth, ought not to be free, or cheap. But very sadly, today’s gospel is: come to, trust, believe in, have faith in, or accept Jesus as Lord and Savior and you are guaranteed eternal life in heaven. One does not even have to speak those words, but one can imagine them being true, or just think/picture them in their minds, to ‘be saved.’ Oh, and often sinners are told to confess their sins and ask for forgiveness as well. But the proclaimers of this ‘gospel’ never remind their audience that only fools trust, believe in, or have faith in somebody they don’t know really well.
The ‘gospel of Jesus Christ’ includes the following: be perfect as God is perfect Matt. 5:49, be afraid of God Matt. 10:28, give up everything you own Lk. 14:33. Stop sinning Jn 8:34. He told us that to be His disciple, one must obey everything He commanded us. Matt. 28:19-20 He also told us that it’s not those who fawn over Him who get to heaven, but only those who do God’s will. Matt. 7:21. I spend some time on X most days, checking on what the ‘Christians’ are posting there. So many of them do so much fawning over Jesus that it’s quite ridiculous. They have all been duped by Satan’s ‘Jesus Freaking’ cult lies. Satan has set several hell-traps for human beings. One is this ‘fawning over Jesus.’ Another is encouraging sinners to believe that ‘believing in Jesus’ is a mental exercise, when it’s not. Another is believing that the blood shed on the cross has ‘forgiven all our sins, past, present and future.’ Another is that Christians can sin, and still ‘be saved.’ Another is that they, as sinners, can shine the light of Christ into the darkness. The list goes on, but all of them are totally unscriptural. See LIGHT AND DARKNESS on Substack or Facebook’s Life Abundant. Sin is always symbolized by darkness in scripture.
There was a musical icon who performed in the seventies and eighties all over the world. He was an American singer and songwriter who was one of the most popular acoustic artists of the 1970s and one of the best-selling artists in that decade. He was claimed by professional music enterprises as being "among the most beloved entertainers of his era." He recorded and released approximately 300 songs, about 200 of which he wrote himself. He had 33 albums and singles that were certified Gold and Platinum in the U.S, with estimated sales of more than 33 million units. He recorded and performed primarily with an acoustic guitar and sang about his joy in nature, disdain for city life, enthusiasm for music, and relationship trials. His concerts were places where he got his audience to fawn all over him, believing him to be such a caring, warm, loving soul. He wrote many song lyrics about love and peace. He assured all his fans that he loved them all dearly, and frequently boasted of ‘falling in love’ with the Chinese people and the American Indians. He was truly an incredibly talented and gifted songwriter and guitar player. He had ‘said those words’ after the preacher as a young man, and believed he was called to shed Christ’s love/light on the world. He tried marriage twice, and each failed after three years. After all that, he took his own life at the age of 53, being so messed up in his mind because he had acted out such a charade for all those years and still could not love himself. That story is common for many stars of music, sport, or entertainment.
The Barna Institute’s data shows that children of pastors are more likely to seek psychological help than those of other parents. Children brought up in evangelical church homes are as likely to commit crimes as any other child. ‘Christianity,’ as it has been known for 160 years, has NOT worked for anyone. In fact, it has caused more reasonable folks to become depressed due to their constant need to act out some charade of godliness. Eighty-six million of them vacated their pews over two decades recently and continue doing so today in droves. But those who remain are spending millions of dollars today making movies and videos to double down on their failed doctrine and gospel. Evil runs amok all over America simply because there is zero fear of God in the community.
I have a message from God in my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before their eyes. Ps. 36:1
It was the fear of God and doing what was right in His eyes that made sinners into Christians in the first Church.
Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right. Acts 10:34-35
Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace and was strengthened. Living in the fear of the Lord and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers. Acts 9:31
Fear of God is essential for salvation, but you will never hear that from pulpits or evangelists today.
Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear. 1 Pet. 1:17
Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, Phil. 2:12
Moses said to the people, do not be afraid: God has come to test you so that the fear of God will be with you to stop you from sinning. Ex. 20:20
Blessed is the man who always fears the Lord. Prov. 28:14
Through the fear of the LORD evil is avoided. Prov. 16:6
\The fear of the Lord leads to life: then one rests content, untouched by trouble. Prov. 19:23
Whoever fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge. The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, turning a person from sin. Prov. 14:26-27
That’s God’s gospel folks, but it’s never proclaimed today. No wonder Satan has been able to take control of America. The ‘Christians’ of today all claim to be ‘in Christ,’ and ‘godly folks.’ What does ‘godly’ mean?? Obviously, it means to be ‘like God.’ Yes, we can be ‘like God’ because He has commanded us to be holy as He is holy, and to be perfect as He is perfect. In fact, without holiness nobody will see God! Heb. 12:14. I have heard far too many times from pulpits that we cannot stop sinning because we are simply humans with sinful natures, despite scripture assuring us that the old nature was crucified with Christ on that cross, for all who repent. Rom 6:6, Col. 2:11. Paul told us that holiness is the result of being free from sin. Rom. 6:22.
I trust and pray that you will have heard God speak truth to you as you read this article. I do NOT have opinions about spiritual matters. I simply believe what God has told me. And I have experienced what He has promised if we do obey Him. I know joy unspeakable, peace that passes all understanding, and freedom like I am soaring on eagles’ wings on air currents far above the earth’s surface. I was once a filthy sexual predator, but He set me free!! He can do the same for you!
